Welcome to our school!

Merrylands East Public School was established in 1928 as a K-2 school and then eventually became a K-6 school in the 1960s.

At Merrylands East, students are provided opportunities to develop the skills, capabilities and knowledge that are necessary to be successful in a globalised and highly digital society. Our students are encouraged to become active global citizens.

We are committed to expanding your child’s educational experiences through innovative and creative learning that is relevant and authentic.

Our students thrive by learning anytime, anywhere and with anyone.

There are no voluntary contribution schemes, curriculum costs or school fees as we serve the Merrylands community. All resources including stationery are provided to students in class. It is the best education money can't buy!!

Selective high schools and opportunity classes

Applications close Friday 21st February 2025.

For 2026, the NSW Department of Education will implement the Equity Placement Model. Under the Model, up to 20% of student places at each selective high school and opportunity class are held for high potential and gifted:

  1. students from low socio-educational advantaged areas 10%
  2. Aboriginal and/or Torres Strait Islander students 5%
  3. students from rural and remote locations 2.5%
  4. students with a disability. 2.5%

High potential and gifted students often have some, or all, of the following characteristics. They:

• enjoy learning

• have intense curiosity

• display a good memory

• ask complex questions

• enjoy learning new and often complex ideas or skills

• require fewer repetitions when learning new things

• are creative

• become intensely focused in their area of interest or passion

If your child happens to obtain a place, then you can choose to accept or decline the offer. The choice is yours.

The nearest OC Classes and Selective High Schools can be found on the application website.

Applications close on Friday 21st February 2025.

The new safe and respectful schools posters

This term, our school is part of an initiative to strengthen respect for all our students and staff. The Addressing Occupational Violence campaign is being launched with posters that remind everyone to always treat our students and staff with kindness and respect, and that aggressive behaviour of any type will not be tolerated at school.

We value our partnerships with you to support every student to learn, grow, and belong. It is up to us – the school and the parent-body - to be good respectful role models to our students. Together, we can create a safe and harmonious environment for our students and staff

Please join us in supporting this work to create a positive change. Check out the new posters at school and if you have any questions or would like to discuss further, please make contact with the principal.

Merrylands East Public School hours are from 8:00am to 1:15pm. The school office is open from 7:30am to 2:00pm.

For life threatening situations, please call '000'.
