Opportunities and activities
At Merrylands East Public School, we offer a variety of co-curricular (extra-curricular) programs and activities.
Getting involved in co-curricular activities supports learning beyond the classroom. They help students build new skills, make friends and explore new interests.
Our programs and activities may include:
- School sport, athletics and inter-school competitions
- Choir and dance groups
- Excursions and incursions
- Debating
- Music and creative arts groups
- Student leadership opportunities

Our students take part in activities that bring learning to life. These experiences build confidence, skills and real-world understanding.
Our co-curricular highlights

Debating and public speaking
Any student with an interest in public speaking can join our debating program.
Each year, our debating teams participate in the NSW Public Schools interschool debating competition, and last year, our team achieved significant success by reaching the semifinals of the regional competition.
Creative and performing arts
Students can join our choir, dance or recorder music programs. They can take part in school concerts and our annual art exhibition.
Our school dance troupe showcased their talent at Pulse Alive, held at the Ken Rosewall Tennis Stadium in Olympic Park this year. They joined thousands of students from various schools, coming together to create a spectacular and unforgettable performance that celebrated the joy of dance.

Trips and excursions
Our students enjoy getting out of the classroom to explore, learn and try new things.
Each year, our Stage 1 students consistently look forward to their visits to Sydney Zoo, where they have the opportunity to engage with a diverse range of animals and learn about wildlife conservation. Each trip is an exciting adventure that enhances their understanding of animal habitats, behaviour, and the importance of protecting endangered species.
